It starts with God’s grace and mercy. Salvation is possible due to the grace and mercy of God. Paul wrote to Christians, reminding them, “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God” (Ephesians 2:8). Again, “not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us” (Titus 3:5).
There are conditions to receiving God’s grace and mercy in one’s life. (1) One must hear the word of God (Matthew 7:24; Romans 10:14, 17). (2) One must believe (Mark 16:15-16; John 8:24; Acts 16:30-31). (3) One must repent (Acts 2:38; 3:19). (4) One must confess (Romans 10:10). (5) One must be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:37-38; Acts 22:16).
Furthermore, there are conditions to continuing in God’s grace and mercy. One should seek to live his life according to the will of God (1 John 1:6-7; 2:3-4); faithful until death (Galatians 6:8-9; Revelation 2:10). When one is aware that he has sinned, then he should repent and confess such to God (Acts 8:22; 1 John 1:9; cf. Proverbs 28:13).
