What To Expect

The unknown can be intimidating.  Therefore, we want you to know what you can expect when you visit us.

DRESS

We have no dress code.  Some dress up.  Most do not.  What really matters is that we try to wear the proper spiritual clothing (Romans 13:13-14; Ephesians 4:24; Colossians 3:8-10, 12-14; 1 Peter 3:3-4; 5:5).  However, we also want to dress modestly (1 Timothy 2:9-10; Exodus 20:26; 28:42).

BIBLE CLASSES

We offer Bible classes for children and adults.  The teacher will lead the class in study of a Bible text, character, or topic.  Discussion and questions are usually invited.  Verbal participation is optional.  Bible classes last for about an hour.

WORSHIP

We seek to worship God “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24).  Worship “in spirit” means worshipping with a sincere heart (John 4:24 cf. Joshua 24:14).  Worship “in truth” means worshipping according to God’s word (John 4:24 cf. John 17:17).

We engage in five specific acts of worship.  These are:

  1. Prayer.   Men from the congregation will lead the church in prayer (1 Timothy 2:1-8).  We praise and thank God in prayer.  We set our requests before Him.
  2. Singing.   We sing with grace in our hearts to the Lord (Colossians 3:16; Ephesians 5:19).  There is no special choir.  All of the member are to lift up their voices in praise.  We do not use mechanical instruments of music in our worship.  We find no New Testament authority for such.  However, we do play the heart strings, making melody in our hearts to the Lord (Ephesians 5:19).  Song books are available if you are unfamiliar with the words of the songs.  Sing along if you desire.
  3. The Lord’s Supper.   We observe the Lord’s Supper each first day of the week (Acts 20:7).  We do this remembering the sacrificial death of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 11:23-26).  The bread is the communion of the body of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16).  The cup is the communion of the blood of Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16).
  4. Giving.   The members of the congregation support the work of the church by making a contribution on the first day of the week (1 Corinthians 16:1-2; 2 Corinthians 9:7).  If you are not a member of the church of Christ, we do not expect you to give.  You may if you want.  However, it is not expected.  You are our guest and we are glad that you visited.
  5. Preaching.    A lesson will be presented from God’s word (Acts 20:7; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; 4:1-2).  The aim is to help develop faith, hope, and love in man (Romans 10:17; Colossians 1:23; 1 Timothy 1:5).  Moreover, it is to lead people to grace, mercy and peace (Romans 5:1-2; Ephesians 2:8, 9; Titus 2:11-14; 3:3-7; 1 Thessalonians 4:8).  The sermon will last about 30 minutes (the entire worship service, about one hour).  Bryan Hodge, the local minister, will preach most sermons.  Occasionally, there are guest speakers.
